You may have seen the Sony Bravia LCD TV advertisement on television. The one with hundreds or even thousands of colourful bouncing balls going down the street. Personally it’s one of my all-time favourite tv ads and I recently found that Sony has a dedicated website for it. Colourful, beautiful, smooth and relaxing… You can see it here.

Pandora is an application that runs in your web browser, where you enter your favourite artist and it creates a playlist of music accurately similar. The sound quality is great.
Roof advertising January 18, 2006

Advertisers are slowly discovering the potential of Google Maps , Google’s online sattelite pictures site. Apparently some companies are hiring painters to paint their logos or advertising messages on their roofs. The idea is that when the Google satellite passes overhead, users will be able to see company logos stand out in a sea of otherwise bare roofs.
So why not take the next step and start leasing your own rooftop?
X-Files Creator sues Fox January 18, 2006

Chris Carter, maker of the hit series “The X-Files” sued 20th Century Fox, accusing the studio of “screwing him out of millions of dollars in residuals related to the show’s profitable syndication agreement”.
“Fox’s TV production arm breached a 1998 contract with Carter (…) because the financial terms turned out to be ‘too favorable’ to the creator at the expense of the studio.”
Fox licensed X-Files reruns to an in-house network, which cheated Carter out of a generous amount of money if the episodes were put up on the open market. A similar lawsuit was brought against Fox by David Duchovny, who played Fox Mulder in the series, a while ago which coincidentally involved the same network.

Tim Robbins to direct 1984? January 18, 2006

It’s a fact that Tim Robbins wants to make a new adaptation of the 1948 George Orwell’s novel “1984″, which predicted a dark dystopian future in which a totalitarian government watches its subjects relentlessly. Robbins says he already has a screenplay and is now moving to the part of putting it together.
“Say the name 1984 to anybody and chances are they’ll think of three things: Big Brother, Room 101 and a third concept that hasn’t yet been made into a crappy TV show (although that’s surely only a matter of time), The Thought Police, who monitor the thoughts of potential subversives in the population.”

According to SciFi.com, it has been given green light to begin the production of the new supernatural miniseries “Nine Lives”, which will have Steven Spielberg as executive producer and Les Bohem as screenwriter. The same team behind the Emmy-winning 2003 miniseries Taken.
Bohem will write all 12 hours of Nine Lives, which will focus on several characters who discover a way to reunite with dead loved ones in the afterlife through near-death experiences. But with each journey they bring an unknown evil closer.
The series are scheduled for 2007, so we’ll have to wait a bit.
ASIMO January 17, 2006

I bet you already heard of ASIMO, Honda’s humanoid robot. Last month they introduced a new ASIMO, capable of pursuing key tasks in a real-life environment.
“(…) the New ASIMO can walk along with you (holding your hand if you wish), and features advanced mobility, to the extent that ASIMO can now move carts and other objects around at will. And, with a newly developed total control system that controls all of ASIMO’s functions, ASIMO can autonomously act as a receptionist, or even deliver drinks on a tray. The New ASIMO is also more agile than before, being able to run at 6km/h, and even turn whilst running.”
Honda published several videos online so we could watch it perform these tasks and more, along with some videos of the previous model. You can see them here.
I don’t think that the time when we’ll be living with “asimos” hanging around on the streets and in our workplace is that far away, at this pace…
Want to be a comic artist? January 17, 2006

I’m one of those people that spend around an hour, on “quick” days, browsing his daily list of webcomics. Also, I grab a comic book whenever I get the chance. So the idea of creating my own comic has struck me before. More than once, actually. Long story short, it didn’t get past the 5th or 6th strip. But anyway, it was with a particular interest that I heard about this new software from Planetwide Games called “Comic Book Creator”. And as the name says, it’s a software that helps the comic book artist wannabe with some cool features, giving a hand with all the essential tools needed to make fun comic books or simple page layouts using a wide array of templates.
But I’ll let you discover that by yourselves. Here’s a link to a review on it, and you can try the software yourself by downloading the trial version here.
